Toto Wolff confident of Mercedes rebound in Brazil amid Ferrari and Red Bull P2 battle

Mercedes team chief Toto Wolff is looking to put the "tough weekends" behind him, confidently asserting the team can "strike back in Brazil".

Heading into the final four rounds of the 2025 Formula 1 season, Mercedes sits third in the constructors' standings, just one point behind second-placed Ferrari and nine points ahead of Red Bull in fourth.

After George Russell's victory in Singapore, the Brackley outfit struggled at the United States and Mexico Grands Prix. Andrea Kimi Antonelli finished sixth with Russell in seventh in Mexico, and Russell finished sixth with Antonelli in 13th in Austin.

“Four races to go. Just one point now separates ourselves and Ferrari, with Red Bull only nine further back,” Wolff explained in the Mercedes preview ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix.

“We have had a couple of tough weekends, but we are still in the fight for P2.

“Each one of these four events is going to be vital in the battle for second in the constructors' and, whilst our advantage over our rivals disappeared across Austin and Mexico, we can strike back in Brazil.”

In addition to the four grands prix remaining, there will be two sprint races in Brazil and Qatar.

“The penultimate sprint weekend of the year means we have to be at our very best from the off,” the team principal added.

“Interlagos is an old-school circuit with a bumpy surface, elevation changes, and a wide range of corners. Add in unpredictable weather and there is little margin for error.

“No matter what the weekend throws at us our aim is to hit the ground running, execute better than our competitors, and get back in front of our nearest rivals.”

Russell celebrated his first Formula 1 grand prix victory during the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix. “It was such a special day, crossing the line in first position having dreamt of that moment ever since I was a kid, especially after a tough season,” the Briton said at the time.

“There was so much effort that had gone in to turning that season around, so it was good to get a real sense of belief back into everyone.”
