Jennifer Lawrence’s Latest Looks Cement Black Onyx As the Stone of the Moment

As she embarks on a press tour for Die My Love, the Lynne Ramsay-directed psychological drama, Jennifer Lawrence has traded in high-octane red-carpet glamour for something far more intriguing.

In New York this week, the Oscar winner stepped out in a series of monochromatic looks that exuded understated confidence: a black vintage Dolce & Gabbana midi dress here, a white tee and black skirt there. But it was her jewellery that made the most significant statement.

Two nights in a row, Lawrence turned to Sophie Buhai, the Los Angeles-based designer known for sculptural minimalism and a reverence for organic materials. First came the Vienna earrings: long, elegant drops punctuated by glistening black onyx.

The next night, she opted for the Audrey pearl drop style, which caught the light against her blonde, tousled waves.

In the past few months, she’s also been spotted in the brand’s Angelika earrings, Constellation necklace and the Bagel ear cuff—all in black onyx, of course.

Yes, if there was ever any doubt, Lawrence has officially cemented black onyx as the stone of the season.

Once beloved by 1970s and ’80s icons like Elsa Peretti, the glossy mineral is enjoying a revival that feels both timeless and modern. Designers from Sophie Buhai to Agmes are revisiting its moody sheen, styling it in fluid silhouettes like cord necklaces and organic-shaped pendants that offer a more grounded and compelling take on the quiet-luxury sensibility.
