Toto Wolff explains £4.6billion Mercedes F1 valuation after stake sale to CrowdStrike CEO

Mercedes CEO and team principal Toto Wolff addressed his stake sale to CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz, which has valued the Brackley outfit at £4.6billion.
The valuation has placed the Mercedes Formula 1 team in the top five most valuable sports teams.
“I think it shows a good development because the teams have become sustainable and profitable," Wolff told Sky Sports F1 in Las Vegas.
"It’s not just some valuation that has been taken out of the sky. When you look at our revenues and our cash flows, we are among the five, maybe three most profitable sports teams in the world, and this is where the valuations come from.
“It has been the work of many years and the sport being in a good place.”
Wolff sold a 15% stake in his holding company. As the team chief owns a third of the Mercedes F1 team, this 15% stake represents 5% of shares in the team.

The stake sale came ahead of the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix, which marks the first of the final three race weekends of the season. The Brackley outfit currently sits second in the constructors' championship and will be hoping to defend its position against Red Bull and Ferrari over the last three rounds.
Mercedes drivers George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli finished ninth and 10th in the first practice session in Las Vegas.
"Obviously, super dirty track and what did we learn? Yeah, it's very difficult when you do the lap times, if somebody does it five minutes later, it obviously has much more improved grip," Wolff said. "And our long runs were good, that was encouraging, and we shall see how that all pans out on a quick lap."
