Lewis Hamilton retires from Brazil GP in double Ferrari DNF

Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire from the 2025 Brazil Grand Prix after a troublesome race at Interlagos.

On the opening lap of the race, Hamilton suffered a clash with Williams' Carlos Sainz before clipping the rear of Alpine's Franco Colapinto, which forced him to pit for a new front wing.

"When he passed me in the pitlane there was so much damage to the guide vanes on the floor," Sky Sports F1 pitlane reporter Ted Kravitz explained at the time. "He will be slower than a slow thing. There is so much damage to the floor of his Ferrari."

After struggling at the rear of the pack, the British driver entered the pits again. "Mate, I'm going to crash out here. I'll keep trying. The car is crazy unstable," he said ahead of the second pitstop.

While the stewards confirmed there would be no further action for Hamilton's collision with Sainz, he did receive a five-second penalty for the clash with Colapinto.

By lap 17, Hamilton was running in 17th position as he continued to battle with his damaged Ferrari.

Hamilton's retirement added to a weekend to forget for Ferrari as his team-mate Charles Leclerc retired earlier in the race after a collision with Oscar Piastri and Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

A strong sprint race from Mercedes yesterday resulted in the Brackley outfit overtaking Ferrari in the constructors' standings as the battle for second behind McLaren intensifies over the final four rounds of the 2025 season.

Hamilton has struggled all weekend at Interlagos. "I'm not expecting anything to be honest, but we'll see what happens, it's another write-off weekend I guess," the Briton said after qualifying.

He added that he was "not great" mentally. "I'll just do what I can tomorrow."
