Oscar Piastri’s Las Vegas GP helmet is a throwback to his RC car championship days

Oscar Piastri, much like his McLaren team-mate Lando Norris, has revealed a special edition helmet for the Las Vegas Grand Prix as he pays tribute to his success in motorsport at a much younger age.
The Australian driver has left his usual fluorescent design helmet at home, instead opting for a bright pink and teal design, matching the paintwork of his 1:10 electric touring RC car, which he used to win the Australian national RC championship in 2010.
With an angular design similar to that of the shell of his former racing car - plus a few current sponsors - Piastri will show it off under the bright lights of Sin City.
"Throwing it back to my RC days," he posted alongside a photo of the helmet.
He goes into the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend with added pressure on his shoulders as he continues his fight to reclaim the championship lead. Norris currently sits with a 24-point lead over his team-mate, but Piastri is looking to regain the performance he's lacked over the last few rounds of the championship.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the car in Vegas," he said in a press release ahead of the United States race. "I’m concentrating on performance, building a strong weekend and maximising every opportunity.

“It’s a high-speed track, and it’s always fun to race down The Strip. The cooler conditions are an interesting variable, and the layout usually allows for plenty of overtaking.”
With the championship still in reach, Piastri will be hoping to take his eighth win of the season after a bout of poor results in Singapore, Austin, Mexico, and Brazil.
"A tough afternoon," he said after a disappointing fifth-place finish in Sao Paulo after starting fourth. "It was very eventful and just a shame that we didn't get more out of it today.
"Ultimately disappointing, but we'll reset before the final triple-header."
