PFW: The Body In Motion At Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2027

What lies beneath the clothes has been a focus across runways this season, and at Louis Vuitton, it became a mission of designing around movement rather than simply placing garments on a body. For Spring/Summer 2027, Nicolas Ghesquière explored this by homing in on ergonomics as a starting point for a collection that fused fashion and physiology.

But rather than straightforward functionality, the idea took shape as a subtle recalibration of familiar clothes. Silhouettes were shaped from the inside out, following the body as it bends, stretches and moves rather than imposing a fixed outline upon it. Tailoring was stripped back and re-engineered, with inner layers removed to create pieces that appeared light while retaining technical integrity.

That weightlessness was particularly apparent in the fabrics, where chiffon was layered without losing its airiness, while silk and cashmere scarf fabrics were worked into garments that seemed to almost hover over the body. Knitwear traced the figure, and footwear provided a point of punctuation, anchoring otherwise fluid looks.

The collection felt almost anatomical in its exploration of the body. Clothes appeared to follow shifting physical contours without becoming restrictive, resulting in a wardrobe designed for a body in motion: flexible, responsive and ever-changing.

As a House founded around travel, this idea of making movement easier is foundational to Louis Vuitton’s history, and Ghesquière translated that principle into purposeful clothing. As each model moved through the cityscape setting with an ethereal lightness, we were reminded that the most interesting part of any outfit is still the person moving inside it.
