Genesis signals entry into GT3 racing with Magma GT Concept

Genesis has taken its most decisive step yet toward a future in GT3 racing after unveiling the striking Magma GT Concept in France.

The Korean manufacturer held a presentation at Paul Ricard on Thursday, near the brand’s new facility in Signes, where it offered a glimpse of its future products. Alongside the new GV60 Magma SUV and the GMR-001 Hypercar, which is set to debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship next year, the other star of the show was a car that “signals Genesis’ performance identity for the next decade” - the Magma GT Concept.

Still in development stages, the model is being positioned as the foundation for the brand’s long-term ambitions in GT3 racing. Featuring gullwing doors, the two-seater sportscar is expected to spawn a racing version that will complement Genesis’ factory programme in the WEC.

The Magma GT Concept is Genesis' first real sports car, with the Hyundai-owned brand having focused entirely on luxury models so far. It still carries key design cues from its premium siblings, but the shift to a mid-rear engine layout and a body shaped explicitly for aerodynamic efficiency and performance marks a fundamental departure from anything the company has produced before.

Genesis stated that the Magma GT Concept serves as both a design manifesto and a strategic beacon for the brand, visually and philosophically encapsulating what it wants to achieve by entering the motorsport arena and expanding its range of high-performance products.

“The Magma GT Concept represents the pinnacle of our performance vision and stands as a symbol of our commitment to true motorsport capability,” said Luc Donckerwolke, president and chief creative officer of Genesis.

“It isn’t defined by raw aggression or uncompromising speed — it is defined by balance. This is a car that feels instinctively connected to its driver, composed under pressure, and meticulously tuned so that every component serves a single purpose: to make performance effortless.”

“The Magma GT doesn’t ask the driver to prove their skill; it enhances it. This is not simply a faster Genesis. It is the most complete expression of Genesis performance to date.”

Genesis’s first step into racing will be its Hypercar programme with the Oreca-based GMR-001 LMDh, but the brand had always wanted to expand into GT3 racing once it had the right product.

With the Magma GT Concept, that missing piece may have finally arrived, and Genesis’s future roadmap is beginning to take shape. This is only the first step of a long journey, but thanks to the presence of experienced drivers already engaged with the GMR-001 prototype - and additional talent available within the wider Hyundai Motorsport umbrella - the project is expected to take its final forms in the coming months.
