Mohammed Ben Sulayem teases new 1600hp project with Koenigsegg

Re-elected FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem is lining up another project with hypercar manufacturer Koenigsegg. The Dubai native has a lot of love for the Swedish car company, with him already owning two Regeras and a Chimera, but he's now working on a totally one-off build that he shared with motoring personality Tim Burton, owner of the Shmee150 brand.

The British supercar content creator shared a video on his Instagram account during a Dubai Autodrome gathering that shows Sulayem lifting the curtain on his "secret" project, admitting that "you will see it soon." With the two sitting together in Sulayem's one-off Chimera, a car built around an Agera RS and a Jesko just for the president, Burton was shocked by the news of the next project.

According to the video, the donor car will be a green-carbon Koenigsegg Regera, chassis #7191. The work will be undertaken by the company's Legends Division - and it's no easy undertaking. The Regera's hybrid powertrain will be ripped apart, leaving only the twin-turbo V8 to power the machine. To make up for the lack of electric power, the combustion engine will be tuned to around 1600hp.

This power will be sent through the manual transmission of a CC850, technology created by the company that, according to the post, has the ability to switch to automatic mode via its Light Speed Transmission system, but can also be enjoyed as a gated manual when the driver fancies a change of scenery.

If accurate, this is a huge output for a car that boasts 1500hp in total from the factory. If the spec sheet is anything like what's currently being discussed, it will be one of the craziest cars ever to come from the manufacturer.

This comes on the back of the news that Sulayem has been re-elected as president of the FIA after he ran unopposed in the election this year. He will now serve a second four-year term after starting in 2021.
