Swiss rider Noah Dettwiler is no longer in a critical condition, three days after being involved in a horrific crash before the start of the Moto3 race at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

In a short announcement on social media, CIP Green Power revealed that Dettwiler has made progress in his recovery after undergoing multiple surgeries in Kuala Lumpur on Monday. He will remain in the ICU for the time being.

“According to the doctors, Noah’s condition is now stable and no longer critical,” the team said in a joint statement with Dettwiler’s family.

“He will continue to be monitored closely in the intensive care unit.

“Thank you for all your continued support and kindness.”

Dettwiler’s bike reportedly developed a technical snag on the sighting lap for the Sepang race, causing him to slow down on track exiting Turn 3.

An unsighted Jose Antonio Rueda crashed into the back of Dettwiler on the straight heading to Turn 4, leaving both riders on the ground.

Trackside emergency crews provided immediate medical attention before both riders were airlifted to hospital for further treatment.

Rueda to return to Spain

It was previously announced on Sunday evening that Moto3 champion Rueda had escaped the accident with a fracture to his hand and a severe concussion.

According to the latest update, the Ajo KTM rider has been “recovering well” since being transferred to a private hospital on Monday. He is expected to fly back to Spain on Thursday to undergo surgery on his broken hand.

“After repeating all the tests carried out last Sunday, we can confirm that the Spanish rider’s condition continues to improve,” Ajo said on Wednesday.

“We want to take the opportunity of this positive news to wish Jose Antonio a happy birthday. We hope to be able to celebrate it soon.

“On Monday, the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider was transferred to a private hospital to continue his recovery and to monitor the bruising on his lungs more closely, which are recovering well.

“As a result, doctors believe it is possible for him to return to Spain tomorrow to undergo surgery on his right hand in Barcelona in the coming days.

“On the other hand, the entire Red Bull KTM Ajo team would like to send all our strength to Noah Dettwiler as well as his family and friends during his recovery process. We hope to see you soon.”

The Sepang Moto3 race was immediately red-flagged after the crash, but was resumed later in the afternoon and shortened to 10 laps.
