Lia Block shares recovery update after minor surgery following F1 Academy exit

Lia Block has shared a recovery update after undergoing minor surgery on her wrist following the F1 Academy season.

The American driver shared the news with her followers after the close of the F1 Academy season, saying that she was due to have surgery to correct nerve damage from a previous incident in 2020.

"No one freak out," Block wrote on social media. "Just a minor surgery. I broke my arm in 2020 and ended up having some ulnar nerve damage. I haven’t been able to feel the left side of my hand since then, and it has affected my motor skills and strength. Finally doing something about it! Hopefully only a month for full recovery."

Three weeks on, Block has shared an update on her recovery progress with photos of her bruised arms and videos of her getting back into the gym.

The 2025 F1 Academy season was Block's final year in the all-female racing series, and with that, her time as a Williams Academy driver also came to an end. The 19-year-old has decided to move back to her roots in rallying for 2026.

"After two years as a Williams Racing Academy driver, we can confirm that Lia Block will leave the team at the end of 2025 and return to rally," Williams shared.

"It’s been a pleasure joining her on the journey and we wish her all the best as she embarks on a new chapter in her career. As a team, we remain committed to the F1 Academy project and look forward to sharing our 2026 entrant in due course."

Prior to making her single-seater debut in the F1 Academy in 2024, Block raced in the American Rally Association, Extreme E and Nitrocross. She became the youngest champion in the American Rally Association in 2023 when she was just 16 years old.
