The Arab Stars Bringing Regional Pride To The World Cup Stage
For the first time in history, eight countries from the Middle East are competing in the World Cup.
With this landmark comes the global spotlight, alongside unforgettable moments: from Egypt’s first win in the tournament’s history to Jordan acing the qualifying match. These achievements have led to joyful celebrations across the nation, including some of our favourite Arab celebrities.
From Jordan’s King Abdullah to Palestinian-Chilean icon Elyanna, here are Arab celebrities who have been spotted celebrating the World Cup spirit.
At Jordan’s historical World Cup debut, Crown Prince Hussein,31, and Princess Rajwa, 30, were spotted championing their national team. Recently, the Jordanian Royal couple were once again spotted alongside King Abdullah, 63, for the team’s latest match against Algeria. Each member was seen in attendance adorning the traditional red and white keffiyeh, an expression of cultural pride and solidarity. The match against Austria led to a loss with 3-1, as did the second against Algeria, 2-1. Despite the losses, the team’s presence at the tournament itself cemented them within the World Cup’s history.
Saudi Arabian royal Princess Reema, 50, was spotted at the nation’s match against Uruguay. She appeared alongside other members of the Saudi Arabian royal family, such as Minister of Sport Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal. The royal figure was seen sporting a deep green hijab alongside a white Saudi Arabian national football team track jacket from Adidas, with gold and green stripes and the national emblem. The match resulted in a draw, with a score of 1-1.
The Moroccan-Dutch model, 29, came to champion her nation in a match against Brazil. A match that resulted in a tied score of 1-1. She was spotted amongst the football stands, wearing Coco Cultr’s custom Morocco set. Made up from hues of the flag’s colours, red and green, with Morocco written in bold lettering. The model was caught on the big screen, celebrating the match and cheering the team on with pride.
The beloved singer, 24, made history as the first ever Palestinian singer to perform at the World Cup, her collaboration with Jessie Reyez ‘Illuminate’ as part of FIFA’s official album. In addition to her performance, the star posted a video wearing the jerseys of several Arab teams. Expressing her support and pride in the overflowing Middle Eastern representation at football’s largest stage.
Mona Kattan, 41, recently took to Instagram to express support for Iraq, in celebration of their return to the FIFA stage. The icon herself is from the nation, marking it as a major cultural moment for the celeb as well as others all over the country. Within her post, she said, “When the World Cup feels like home”, showcasing her pride and solidarity in seeing her country represented within the global spotlight.
The Palestinian-Jordanian singer, 28, celebrated Jordan at the World Cup with a perfect ensemble for fashion lovers. She paired a sports jersey adorned with a Jordanian emblem with a flowing white maxi skirt. Topping off the look with ballet flats and a silver belt – for an outfit that feels both sporty and chic. The artist also featured a heartfelt message to the team within her Instagram post in Arabic. One that translates to “In our hearts, wherever we are.”
The Moroccan-Canadian singer, 34, was spotted in the football stands. Cheering for Morocco in a match against Scotland, shortly after her performance at the opening of the World Cup. She was seen championing the country, wearing the team’s national shirt, paired with a white mini skirt. The artist posted videos of herself on Instagram, cheering from the stands and giving testament to the nation’s history in playing against Scotland. Unsurprisingly, the match was a win for Morocco, with a 1-0 lead.
Egyptian actress Passant Shawky, 42, has taken to celebrating the World Cup spirit in style. She was seen at last week’s match between Egypt and Belgium, wearing a custom red jersey with her name written on the back. As of late, the actress has also taken part in an ‘Outside The Box’ episode of Gossip. Where she appeared alongside Mohamed Farrag, Amr Noshy, and Omar Marei for a game of World Cup trivia. For a campaign by Adidas Arabia, Egyptian actress Huda El Mufti, 31, was seen sporting an experimental look in honour of the football season. Bringing in the World Cup energy, the campaign stands as a celebration of the Arab world on football’s grandest stage. The actress topped off the look with an iconic accessory, the FIFA football.
Proudly representing her nation, Saudi Arabian singer Shargeeya, 24, embodied a statement look as part of Adidas Arabia’s campaign in celebration of the World Cup. She spotted a sports jersey with printed pants and a trendy lace belt, completing the outfit with a stack of pearl necklaces.
