This Lebanese Photographer Is Turning Art Into Aid & Here’s How You Can Help

In trying times, many turn to art for help – and this Lebanese photographer is turning her own art into aid.

Myriam Boulous, a Beirut-based artist, is known for her raw approach to photography, capturing the intimate moments of everyday life often against the backdrop of social and political upheaval.

Now, amidst the rising regional conflict following the US and Israel’s first attacks on Iran at the end of February, Lebanon is one of the countries which has been worst affected following Israel’s onslaught of attacks on the nation.

According to the UN, more than one million people have now been displaced – including tens of thousands of families – as Israeli airstrikes have been targeting the South of Lebanon, Bekaa Valley and the capital Beirut.

As a way to help those displaced individuals and families in Lebanon, Boulous has launched a limited-edition print sale, with proceeds going towards supporting those worst affected.

The image at the centre of Boulous’ giving back initiative was captured back in 2022. Described as “Kassem on his way to deliver flowers to a funeral” in Beirut, was taken by Boulous six years ago – it’s a fleeting moment grounded in reality. And it’s now available as a collectable print via Magnum Photos.

The print itself reflects Boulos’ wider portfolio, which often explores themes of identity, womanhood, and resistance.

During times of crisis, many are looking for ways to contribute meaningfully, and Boulos’ initiative underscores the power of creative industries to mobilise support.

Per Boulous’ official Instagram page, the print will be available to shop until Sunday, with proceeds going to support those who have been forcibly displaced.
