Lamborghini: Hampus Ericsson and Danny Formal win Race 2 to...

Hampus Ericsson and Danny Formal scored a sensational comeback victory in Race 2 of the Lamborghini World Finals, with the Wayne Taylor Racing duo claiming the Super Trofeo Pro Class title after winning the second race of the Pro and Pro-Am Final.

Thanks to their 11th place overall, Shota Abkhazava and Egor Orudzhev took home the Pro-Am title, while the pairing of Andrzej Lewandowski and Frederik Schandorff took the class win at the flag, albeit with some disappointment.

The latter had started strongly, holding the lead through the first corners, where collisions in the midfield eliminated Josef Knopp, the clear favourite for the championship crown. Knopp spun and was hit by an oncoming Graham Doyle.

With the VSR driver out of action, and pieces of Huracan debris on the track, race officials deployed the safety car and neutralised the race. When it peeled off again on lap 3, Schandorff immediately seized the opportunity to push and increase his lead over Brendon Leitch.

Behind them, two other top contenders saw their hopes dashed: Anthony Pretorius hit Adam Putera, sending him into a spin, and the Leipert Motorsport driver was given a 10-second penalty. Shortly after, karma must have kicked in as he spun himself after he was hit by a rival.

With the duo of Elias de la Torre and Will Bamber well behind, Ericsson gradually climbed the standings until he handed his Lamborghini over to Formal in third place. The IMSA-GTD star then gradually closed the gap on Jonathan Cecotto and Gavin Huang's car to take second place, and in the final 10 minutes of the race, closed the 12-second gap to Lewandowski. After overtaking the Auto Sport Racing man, Formal pulled out a gap of 6.6 seconds by the finish line to celebrate the Pro title with Eriksson.

The Pole, along with Schandorff, did have some sort of consolation with second place overall and the victory in the Pro-Am class, but the title went to Abkhazava and Orudzhev, who won Race 1 after only having to keep an eye on the situation further ahead. Also on the podium in the category was Todd Kingsford and Chris van der Drift, who finished 12th overall.

At the chequered flag, all the others in the top 10 were Pros, with Benedetto Strignano (Rexal Villorba Corse) finishing third overall ahead of Colin Queen (Ansa Motorsport) and Nick Persing (WTR).

Sixth place went to Amaury Bonduel and Andrea Fontana (BDR Competition), albeit slightly further back, with Giacomo Pedrini and Patrik Fraboni (Target Racing) seventh, De La Torre and Bamber (TR3) eighth, Jacob Riegel (Leipert Motorsport) ninth, and Huang and Cecotto rounding out the top 10.
