Apple’s New iPhone Generation Has Arrived in the GCC – Here’s What You Need to Know

September in the GCC means one thing: it’s iPhone season. And this year, Apple has given us something we definitely haven’t seen before.

Enter the new generation: the foldable iPhone Duo, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. From a phone that quite literally folds in half to serious camera upgrades and a new A20 Pro chip, Apple has switched things up.

With the new models rolling out across the UAE and wider region, what’s actually different this time? Here, GRAZIA breaks it down.

The headline act is, of course, the iPhone Duo – Apple’s first-ever foldable iPhone.

Closed, it has a compact 5.4-inch outer display. Open it up and that becomes a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR display, giving you a much bigger canvas for everything from watching content and gaming to multitasking.

Both displays have the same aspect ratio, so everything transitions smoothly when you open and close the phone, while a nano-texture finish on the inner screen helps minimise glare and makes the crease less noticeable.

The Duo is also built to handle everyday life, with a grade 5 titanium design, Ceramic Shield protection and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. And, naturally, the camera has had a foldable makeover too.

The 48MP Fusion Main camera comes with an optical-quality 2x Telephoto, while the 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide handles wider shots and macro photography. The folding design also means you can use the rear cameras for higher-resolution selfies while seeing yourself on the outer display. Genius.

If you’re not quite ready to fold your phone in half, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max bring plenty of their own upgrades.

Both feature a new 48MP Fusion camera system, with Apple introducing more control over photography and video, alongside upgraded Photographic Styles and new creative tools.

The new A20 Pro chip brings a serious performance boost, while an advanced thermal management system is designed to keep things running smoothly when you’re gaming, editing or shooting content.

And for the Pro Max, battery life gets a major push too, making it particularly appealing for anyone who practically lives on their phone.

Across the new generation, Apple is putting just as much focus on how you use the iPhone as what’s inside it.

The new iOS 27 has been reimagined for the Duo, adapting as the phone folds, unfolds and rotates. Open it up and the larger display gives you more room for multitasking, while apps including Netflix, Zoom and Slack are already taking advantage of the new format.

The Pro models, meanwhile, bring the power of A20 Pro alongside Apple’s latest software and camera features.

And when it comes to colours, the Duo keeps things sleek with Star White and Night Sky, while the Pro models come in their own refined new finishes.
