Lamborghini: Danny Formal and Jonathan Cecotto on pole for Pro and Pro-Am Finals

The pole positions for Race 1 and Race 2 of the Pro and Pro-Am categories in the Lamborghini World Finals were set on Saturday in Misano, setting the stage for arguably the most important categories of the event.

A superb Danny Formal left his rivals standing, while Luca Segu kept the Italian flag flying high in the Pro-Am class.

In the second session, Jonathan Cecotto emulated Formal by taking pole for Race 2 and Frederick Schandorff, who was second overall, took pole in the Pro-Am class.

In the first qualifying session, which produced the grid for the first race of the Finals, Formal blitzed the opposition. The 1m33.455s that he set earned him pole and was the fastest time of the weekend so far, but what's most impressive is the way he achieved it.

Just a few laps on the track were enough for the Wayne Taylor Racing driver to secure pole. His rivals tried to get close, but with little success.

Best of the rest was Paul Levet (VSR), second by 0.235s. Everyone else was within 0.4s, while Will Bamber did well to move up to third place with less than two minutes remaining in the first session.

Silas Rytter (Leipert Motorsport) finished 0.059s ahead of the leading Italian, Giacomo Pedrini. Behind the Target Racing driver were Colin Queen and Benedetto Strignano. Nick Persing, in ninth, finished ahead of Segu, who took pole in the Pro-Am class, and fellow Italian Guido Lucchetti.

The only red flag came out at the end of the session, when Calle Bergman went off the track at Turn 13. The Swede from Leipert Motorsport ended up in the gravel, with no real opportunity to rejoin.

While Formal dominated the first session, the second session was topped by Cecotto. The BC Racing driver stopped the clock at 1m33.618s, almost two tenths ahead of Frederik Schandorff, polesitter in the Pro-Am class. The Dane, thanks to a final push, was able to close in on Cecotto.

Brendon Leitch (Leipert Motorsport) did the same, finishing third ahead of Egor Orudzhev. The ART Line driver also went off the track, bringing out the second red flag of the qualifying sessions.

Georgi Dimitrov (CMR Team) finished fifth overall, ahead of Patrick Fraboni, the leading Italian in the standings for Target Racing and second in the Pro class.

Chris van der Drift (VSR), seventh, finished ahead of Benedetto Strignano (Villorba Corse) and Hampus Ericsson, the brother of Indianapolis 500 winner, Marcus Ericsson.
