2025 F1 Academy runner-up Maya Weug bags funded GT3 test

2025 F1 Academy driver Maya Weug has secured a fully funded GT3 test after finishing second in the drivers' standings in her second season in the all-female racing series.

The 21-year-old driver's test in a Ferrari 296 GT3 with AF Corse is to be fully funded by F1 Academy.

Weug has been a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2021 and is the first female driver to join the Maranello outfit's programme.

"F1 Academy is a stepping stone, not a destination," F1 Academy managing director Susie Wolff said. "We continue to create opportunities that support our most talented drivers to progress. We are pleased to support Maya with this GT test as she explores her next steps for 2026."

After starting karting at seven years old, Weug competed in the Spanish Karting Championship, the CIK-FIA Karting European Championship and the Karting World Championship before moving to Formula 4 in 2021 and Formula Regional in 2023.

Weug now looks to secure a full-time seat after she completed her second and final season in F1 Academy.

“I think I’ve shown what type of driver I am over these two seasons,” Weug said of her final F1 Academy season. “Unfortunately, racing can be very cruel and it has been many times this year, especially in Montreal and yesterday.

“It also had a lot of ups, and that’s what racing is about. I think I’ve grown a lot over these two years. I wish all the best to the team, and let’s see what we do after this.

“Pin did a great job. It was always very fair racing between us two. They all did a great job and I think the most important thing is we raced very hard against each other, but at the same time we were very fair.

“It gave a good show to everyone today, and also last season and this season. She also deserves it and I wish her the best in her career."
