When Aldo Cipullo designed the Love bracelet for Cartier New York in 1969, it was love made tangible – a radical act in gold, if you will.
With its oval shape, visible screws, and locking mechanism, the piece blurred the line between adornment and ideology.
More than half a century later, Cartier is now rewriting its own love story. The Maison has unveiled LOVE Unlimited, the first supple version of the icon. Still instantly recognisable, still etched with its screw motif, the new design blends fluidly around the wrist with over 200 miniature components and a seamless clasp.
“When it’s worn, it’s a Love bracelet. You are not conscious that it moves – that’s what we wanted, a notion of sensuality when you wear it,” Pierre Rainero, Cartier’s Director of Image and Heritage, explained exclusively to GRAZIA when discussing the new collection.

From the start, the Love bracelet was a disruptor. At a time when fine jewellery meant carats and ceremony, Cartier was about concept.
Over the decades, its clean, minimal silhouette aligned seamlessly with shifts in style, from the sleek tailoring of the 1970s to the pared-back 1990s.
LOVE Unlimited reflects the same spirit of reinvention. The gadroons – vertical ridges, punctuating the bracelet – are not decoration, but symbols of articulation, signalling the bracelet’s fluid movement, as Rainero noted.
“The strength of good design lies not only in its originality, but in its ability to evolve while remaining the same,” he said.
Design-wise, thanks to the discreet clasp, which is available in yellow, rose or white gold, it can be connected to a pair, chain, loop, you name it.

For Cartier, this supple version feels perfectly timed. In a world that prizes individuality and freedom, flexibility has become the new norm.
Rainero added: “Because of its extreme comfort and sensuality, this version can create desire among people who never even thought of wearing jewellery.”
Faithful to the original radical vision yet reinvented for today, LOVE Unlimited proves that the saga is far from over. The circle still signifies eternity, the screw symbolises attachment – but the way we wear and interpret love has changed. And Cartier’s icon, once again, has changed with it.
