It’s no secret that the region brings an array of talent into the cultural conversation – and as it steps further into the spotlight, the Middle East is beginning to shape the global cultural landscape. Now, former GRAZIA cover star Tara Emad is set to make her Hollywood debut in The Mummy: Book of the Dead, alongside prominent stars of the franchise, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.
Rumours surrounding the casting of the Egyptian-Montenegrin actress and model had been circulating across social media before the star took to her Instagram account to confirm the news herself. Set to be released on October 15, 2027, details surrounding the star’s character and the film’s plot remain under wraps as production continues.
For years, Emad has remained a prominent figure in the region’s cinema landscape, establishing herself across Egyptian film and television. Her work includes several hit films and television series, from popular titles such as Diamond Dust and The Blue Elephant 2 to her role in Suits Arabia, an Arab adaptation of the popular American legal drama. The actress has also taken on leading roles in projects such as The Fourth Pyramid, The Eve’s Apple and Saheb Al Sa’ada.
Known for her versatility across genres, Emad’s filmography spans drama, comedy, romance, fantasy and thrillers, making the action-adventure genre of The Mummy another addition to her growing repertoire.
As a model, Emad has worked with a series of globally renowned Maisons, having been appointed Chanel Beauty’s first-ever Middle Eastern brand ambassador – marking a significant milestone for both the star and the region. Additionally, she has represented Cartier since 2022 and was the face of prominent Egyptian jewellery house Azza Fahmy for its Summer 2021 collection, ‘El-Nur’.
The film is set to be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmaking duo behind Scream and Ready or Not, while the latest instalment will be written by David Coggeshall. The film will see Fraser and Weisz reprise their roles as adventurer Rick O’Connell and Egyptologist Evelyn O’Connell, respectively, reuniting with John Hannah, Oded Fehr and Kevin J. O’Connor.
The franchise began in 1999 with Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy, which followed Fraser as an adventurer who awakens a cursed ancient Egyptian priest. Since the original film, the story has grown into a major commercial franchise, followed by The Mummy Returns in 2001 and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008. The series has long been celebrated for its distinctive blend of action, horror and comedy — a combination that helped propel it into the global spotlight.
